Brent Sandrock, Lighting Designer
There’s one in every generation, each profession, from athletics to academics . . . that individual who stands out, elevates the game, and leaves an indelible mark on the world. Is Brent that man? Is he the "Great One" of the lighting design industry? Only time will tell; but it’s looking good. So what does Brent bring to the boards—a degree in film and production from Northwestern University, a passion and skill for music, and that Sandrock charm.
Brent prides himself on his depth and versatility in lighting design, which he attributes to his broad background and diverse training. Brent first followed the light to the film industry where he excelled at lighting for the camera. He continues to utilize these skills whenever possible along his journey, designing for a multitude of musical, dance, and theatrical performances. His musical background playing piano and drums as well as working as a DJ enables him to understand, experience, and ultimately craft designs that are organically integrated into any musical act.
As part of the Luxious team, Brent continually diversifies his portfolio, utilizing his music, film, and lighting expertise to create powerful designs. He has designed and toured with Jars of Clay, programmed for corporate trade shows and events, designed for a DVD production of Naked Boys Singing!, worked onboard Princess Cruises and Regent Cruiselines, and lent his talents to a production of The Nutcracker ballet (sans leotard and tights). As expected of a luminary such as Brent, when he's not working on a Luxious Lighting project he spreads his broad creative wings. Professionally, Brent continues to embrace his affinity for film, taking on the Director of Photography role for independent films. While for his personal pleasure, and that of his friends, Brent draws from his days as a DJ and mixes some "seriously ridiculous" mash-ups—mixing electronic and cheesy pop music, something like spicy chili smothered in Velveeta. Yeah, he's ready to take on the world!
