Designer Profiles

Bryan Barancik, Principal Lighting Designer

Bryan’s motto is “Let there be light!” . . . and lots of it--like, one-point-twenty-one jig-a-watts. Might seem cliché for a lighting designer, but wouldn’t you rather have a pilot than a pianist in the cockpit? (Although Bryan does fly planes and is an accomplished pianist.) Armed with a secret stash of Pocket Coffee, Bryan zealously pursues his two passions: music and light.

After graduating from Northwestern University, he realized his lifelong dream: Bryan wanted to ROCK! Since he wasn’t in a band, didn’t write for Rolling Stone, and couldn’t cut it as a roadie due to a trick knee (which one he won’t say), Bryan carefully jumped into lighting concerts and touring. He later traded in the bus for the blues, lighting and programming for hundreds of acts at House of Blues Chicago & Las Vegas.

Lending his talent to the small screen, Bryan was the lighting director for specials on HBO, VH1, and CBS; DVD performances such as Dane Cook Live from Boston, George Lopez Live, and Linkin Park Live; as well as the Ray Charles Tribute Television Special, and the Andre Agassi Benefit Concert in Las Vegas. He continues to design for press events, live television, concerts, and corporate events—though he does miss the road and can sometimes be found riding buses for extended periods of time.

Now for the personal ad: A professionally-trained musician and composer, Bryan plays the piano and the euphonium (look it up). As a live event lighting designer he utilizes his foundation and musicianship in every one of his designs. Bryan also plays well with others and isn’t afraid of commitment: thriving on creative collaboration he regularly works with LD Steve Cohen and is the resident lighting designer for the Las Vegas Philharmonic. His vision as a designer is to realize the convergence of technology, visual art, and musicality.
