Dan "Malibu" Krygowski, Lighting Designer
It all started innocently enough . . . Dan was a freshman in college, and while already a partner in Expo Productions, he wanted to try his hand at something new. He answered an ad in the paper for the Miss Illinois Pageant. Much to his chagrin, Dan was unable to participate in the swimsuit competition--something about an aversion to double-sided tape--but he was in luck; they were looking for a lighting designer. He may never win the crown, but Dan accepted the challenge.
Dan took to lighting design like a NASCAR driver to a sponsorship deal: He couldn't get enough! He got the green light designing at Chicago's Vic Theatre, where he learned the ropes and earned himself the name "Malibu," for his blonde hair, copper tan, and faint smell of coconut. With his background in music and propensity for perfection Dan was a natural. He took the wheel as a lead designer at House of Blues--where he first joined forces with Bryan. Before long, the two shifted to House of Blues Las Vegas. Dan took the poll position as the after-hours designer. He drew upon his days as a DJ, creating designs and visually enhancing the beats and breaks with artistry and finesse.
Dan was in demand. He set off to tour with Carrot Top and then as the lighting designer for O.A.R. (Of A Revolution). He has spent several years with the band, creating designs for their sold-out shows, including O.A.R. Live from Madison Square Garden (concert and DVD box set). Dan's credits also include lighting design for Paul Oakenfold, Berlin, The Pat McGee Band, The Used, The Samples, Harley-Davidson, and Kool & The Gang Live on DVD. While he no longer peruses the classifieds, Dan spends his free time playing golf, immersing himself in all things NASCAR, and giving Bryan and Andrew a hard time (just because he can).
